PRESS RELEASE 25 JUNE 2007 PRESS RELEASE 18 JUNE 2007
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PRESS RELEASE 24 April 2007 Deadline approaching in the hunt to find Europe’s most inventive & innovative women Candidates for the first-ever awards of the European Women Inventors & Innovators Network are urged to submit their entries ahead of the deadline of 30 April. The organisers are looking for exceptionally creative, inventive, innovative female entrepreneurs or designers from all sectors and backgrounds, throughout Europe. More details and online nomination forms are available from the EUWIIN website: www.euwiin.eu. According to Bola Olabisi, the event’s creator & organiser, nominees for the awards “may have created a new device or system or process capable of impacting millions of people for the better. They may be brilliant scientists, or the inspired home-based designers of simple, cheap technologies.” Baroness Sarah Ludford, MEP, led a group of women politicians, inventors and innovation professionals who launched the new awards scheme at the European Parliament in Brussels on 6 February 2007. The new awards build on the highly successful British Female Inventor and Inventor of the Year Awards and have already extended the principle to a total of 16 European participating countries. Previous winners of the British awards include Mandy Haberman, inventor of the Anwayupcup; Adrianne Jones for her Biocycle biodegradable tree shelter and seedling cover; and Deborah Leary, inventor of Stepping Plates, a product to help police collect untainted evidence at crime scenes. The European Women Inventors & Innovators Network (EUWIIN) is a new organisation born out of the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network, of which Mrs Bola Olabisi, the driving force behind the British Female Inventor of the Year Awards, is the managing director. Selection for the 2007 European awards will take place in May and early June. EUWIIN’s first conference and awards event will be staged in Berlin, from 14 to 16 June. London Metropolitan University is the principal partner of EUWIIN in launching and promoting the new awards. For more information, see www.euwiin.com.
