European Union Women Inventors & Innovators Network

ASA MAGNUSSON WINS EUWIIN 2011 OVERALL TOP PLATINUM AWARD FOR LIFE SAVING DEVICE

Asa Magnusson, the inventor of a life saving equipment for helping lifesaving organisations such as divers as well as guardians and sea-saving associations takes top prize in European Union Women Inventors & Innovators Awards in Reykjavik, Iceland on 8 September.

Asa Magnuon from Sweden, was voted overall winner in the European Union Women Inventors & Innovators Awards 2011, for her patented QSAVE PRO, an innovative life saving small, easy to swim with and bring under the surface device. It is suitable for assisting heavy victims from drowning while it can be brought from under the surface with relative ease than the other equipment that is used today, both on and under the surface.

The competition's judges chaired by Diane Morris of The international Alliance for Women (TIAW) were impressed not only by Asa's invention but with the added factor of her relentless efforts in pursuing her goals and her capability of using her invention as a tool for impacting millions of people for the better.

Over fifty women inventors and innovators presented their entries to the judging panel at the New Harpa Conference Centre in Reykavik, Iceland on the 7 September 2011.

Each entrant that reached the stage of finalist was specially recognised and were different in many respects. What they all had in common was their tenacity, the determination to succeed, commitment, extraordinary potential, their positive influence and the possibilities to spread, transcend borders and contribute to the future and quality of life on earth.

In addition to the overall award for 'best woman inventor & innovator' there were four other category awards which went to:

Innovator of the year

Finnish Salla Koski for her invention of interactive diabetes care management system – Dr DUCK - A blood glucose monitor and Mr FROG – an interactive diabetes management system aimed to facilitate the life of a diabetic – child and to make the management of the disease more pleasurable.

Category: Exceptionally Creative Winner

Icelandic Heida Eiriksdottir & Borbjorg Valdimarsdottir for starting up and running Rain Dear a unique design for coats with many layers of different materials, e.g. plastic, silk and wool.

Category: Education

Italian Alessandra Fierabracci, for inventing a kit able to work the method for detection of GAD65 auto reactive T cells in newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetic patients and in the pre diabetic period.

Category: Capacity Building

Bjarney Ludviksdottir, Runa Magnusdottir from Iceland and Mary Schnack from United States of America for BRANDit, for their three-and-a-half day program targeted for the established woman business owner to re-invigorate her passions towards business, further visions and work on personal brands.

Local Country Host for the event, Mrs Elinóra Inga Sigurðardóttir, President of the Icelandic Women Inventors & Innovators Network (KVENN) who co-organised the event spoke of her absolute delight to have such a memorable occasion in Iceland. She welcomed everyone to Iceland and congratulated all the finalists and winners.

The European Women Inventors & Innovators Network (EUWIIN) is an initiative born out of the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network, of which Mrs Bola Olabisi, the driving force behind the British Female Inventor of the Year Awards, is the Founder and Director. Mrs Olabisi concluded the event with praise and acknowledgement of the many inspirational women that participated in this year's event. She said she was amazed with the diversity of entries from the various sectors.
